Fleet Opening Mission: To Our Future

USS Braveheart, Docked with Starbase Thrinacea

1211 Hours

"Aye Captain I am Lt Ka'Tara, thank you for the welcome Sir. I have just come aboard and came to report for duty as per my orders Sir." she said as she held out a padd with her orders on it.

Ethan took the padd, and gave it a quick glance. Sure enough it was an exact copy of what he had received on his console earlier. Setting the padd down on the desk, he looked back up at the woman in front of him, still not believing the size of her.

“It is good to have you aboard, I’m sure you will be a great asset to this ship. Please once you’ve settled yourself, report in with Lt. Commander Grant. He is your Chief of Security. He will also be the one to give you your schedule and orders. Also, as is customary, you know how to follow the chain of command should you need to address any issues.”

Ethan clasped his hands together on the desk and waited for the new officer to reply. Though he had had his share of run-ins with Klingons, he didn’t think he would have any problems with this one.

Ka'Tara sat with her eyes forwards looking directly at the Captain, "Thank you Sir, I shall do all in my power to fit in and be an asset rather than an encumberance. As for the chain of command aye Sir I know and understand it, I shall report in to Commander Grant directly after leaving your officer Sir. Am I correct in thinking you that you will require me to have a medical and talk to the councilor before I am cleared for duty Sir?" she asked her tone was crisp, clear and respectful though slightly cold and hard.

Ethan swiveled his chair so that his legs were moved from being under his desk. Crossing one over the other, finally feeling a bit more comfortable, he listened as the woman spoke about her plans.

"Thank you Sir, I shall do all in my power to fit in and be an asset rather than an encumberance. As for the chain of command aye Sir I know and understand it, I shall report in to Commander Grant directly after leaving your officer Sir. Am I correct in thinking you that you will require me to have a medical and talk to the councilor before I am cleared for duty Sir?"

“You are correct, Lieutenant. All members, myself included are required to have the standard permission physical from the Doctor, and a session with the counselor before being cleared. I will leave that between you and them to decide when you take care of the appointment setting.” Ethan replied, knowing how he had dreaded both visits in the past, but regulations were regulations.

“I don’t mean to cut you short Lieutenant, but I have to get to the Starbase for a debriefing. If there is anything else?” Ethan asked, as he stood and made his way to the ready room doors, gesturing with his hand for her to follow. As they reached the doors, Ethan reached out his hand, offering a shake and a smile, and said, “Welcome to the Braveheart, Lieutenant Ka’Tara.”

[posting as Lt. Renn Dervin, Chief of Operations for USS Thunderstorm]

Shuttle Bay Two
Starbase Thrinacia
1205 hours

Renn Dervin, newly minted full Lieutenant and Chief of Operations for the Intrepid class USS Thunderstorm, slung his carry-on sack over his shoulder and went through the heavy doors of Starbase Thrinacia's second shuttle bay.  There was so much going on--personnel rushing to and fro stowing cargo and unloading shuttles--that Renn almost felt lost in the shuffle.  He had felt that for most of his Starfleet career, to be honest.  His service record up until now had been spotless but still undistinguished, and his postings had all been relatively minor assignments in remote sectors.  Now, by some roll of the Gods's cosmic dice, he had landed a plum position as a department head on a Task Force Executive Officer's ship.  It was finally his opportunity to shine--to prove that he was worthy, and to prove that a Ullian could not just survive but excel in Starfleet.  He would certainly not let Captain Woodcroft down.

Renn continued down the seemingly labyrinthine corridor, completely undure of where he really was and where he was supposed to go; actually, he knew that he was supposed to go to the Thunderstorm, it was just a question of locating the ship inside this behemoth of a Starbase.  After walking for a few minutes Renn came to what seemed to be a large open space, and there was a Master Systems Display on the far wall.  He walked to that wall, found that the Thunderstorm was docked at Tier Three, traced the most efficient path with his finger and committed it to memory.  He always had a dead-on sense of direction when it came to starships, but the arrangement of Starbases still vexed him to this day.  After approximately five minutes of walking, Renn came to the airlock at Tier Three.  He saw that there was a security checkpoint there, so he pulled a PADD from his pocket, the one that contained his orders, and stepped into the short line.  After he presented the orders to the Ensign on duty and submitted to a contraband and weapons scan with a tricorder, Renn was welcomed aboard by the Ensign and cleared for entry.

The air inside the ship was fresh and cool, the air of a vessel that has not seen any action yet or sustained any damage to its environmental controls.  Renn stood in the center of the corridor and inhaled the air deeply several times through his nostrils, then exhaled heavily and resumed his transit to his quarters which were located on deck five.  After dropping off his carry on, he would pay captain Woodcroft a visit.

As she double checked the security measures and gave all the department a last review of who was going to be there she headed off towards to find admiral malloway and the other brass to give them an update on the security procedures and set ups. Another security officer came up to her and handed her a padd that contained the reports from other ship CSTO. she nodded to him and looked it over as she walks.

JP BETWEEN ADMs MALLOWAY AND TARGUS, and CMDR BLAKE

STARBASE THRINACIA, Merenion Nebulae Cluster
Command Deck
10.40 hours

"Commander Sage Targus, CAG USS Braveheart, reporting as ordered by Starfleet Command."

Connor took a deep breathe and turned around to see whom had annoyed the Admiral in his office. "I see you have a career death wish for that little stunt you pulled Commander." The first officer stated restrained and firmly.

Sage tried to hold back a grin as she replied. "That was no stunt, it was only chaffed flairs. As for a career death wish, I dont see it happening any time soon Commander. I am the top pilot in Starfleet and I doubt Command will be removing my flight status any time soon. Now if you would like to talk stunts or possible career enders you should consider the way that the Control Officer addressed me when I was given permission to dock my fighter. I dont know what kind of command is run here but at least in the Starfighter ranks proper respect is given to pilots."

Connor blinked at the pilots attitude. "First of all you angered an Admiral, thats never a good thing no matter your standing in Starfleet. Secondly if you had followed your flight plan and waited patiently for permission to dock the flight controller might have been friendlier Commander." The first officer replied doing his utmost best to stay calm. "Here at Thrinacia we like things done to the letter and we, especially the Admiral who you have angered, get easily frustrated with those who do not follow the rules."

"If you are concerned that I upset an Admiral then I would suggest that you look into making proper arrangements for my craft. I am sure that Admiral Targus of Starfighter Operations will be quite upset to know that one of Starfleet's most advanced prototypes is being housed like a common shuttle. And to address following the rules," she continued with an anger growing in her voice. "I would like for you to show me where the regulations state that dropping chaffing flairs is in violation of flight operations when closing in on a Starbase. I can tell you now it isnt in the regs anywhere. Now Commander unless you have anything of importance to talk about I suggest you get back to running your command and let me get back to my fighter to be sure it is secure."

Connor couldnt believe what he was hearing. "Your fighter will remain with the rest of the support craft assigned to this base. If you want to take it up with Admiral Malloway go right ahead." He began, "Admiral Targus does not run this base; Admiral Malloway and I do." Connor declared as he tried to keep himself proffessional. "Chaffing flairs are to be used if you do not have a working communications system for attracting attention and I have no doubt that such an advanced fighter would have a working communications system." He came to stand a few centimeters from the pilot. "I suggest you use it and I also suggest you exercise more patience, for the flight operations controllers are very busy the next time you are going to dock." He tapped his commbadge . =/\=Blake to Malloway. Admiral I thought you would like to meet the pilot who flared up your office.=/\= He called.

Steve walked smoothly down the corridor after having seen John outside Ornixen's quarters, stepping into one of the many turbolifts as the call came in. =/\=Malloway here.=/\= He replied after opening the link with a tap to his own badge. =/\=Yes I would like to meet the pilot. I'm on my way up to the command deck now.=/\= And with another swift move he tapped again to close the link; cutting off any response that either may have wished to voice.

As he called out for the turbolift to begin on to a new location, he turned to face the doors as they closed shut. His eyes remained fixed on the joint between each plate. Will I ever get a single moment to myself? He sighed lightly, thinking to himself. He'd been on duty now for well over 24 hours, and there was still plenty more that needed doing. Despite that, he knew that John was right; he needed a rest, and John was more than capable of taking the reins for the time-being.

As the doors opened he blinked, allowing his gaze to rest on Connor standing with another Commander dressed in the standard Starfighter department attire. "This must be them." He whispered to himself as he approached, standing beside Connor as he looked upon Sage. As she saw the Admiral approach she snapped to. "Commander." He greeted her, continuing before she could reply, his voice unruffled but slightly louder as he continued. "Mind explaining why you decided to play ring of fire outside my office window?"

"Yes Sir. I had been waiting for clearance to land my craft. The Flight Controller failed to return clearance in a timely manner as set by Starfleet Operation Policy for prototype and experimental craft. I decided that the releasing of chaffed flairs to gain the attention of the Admiral would be a safe and effective way to get the Flight Controllers to respond." She replied quickly, still snapped to. "Furthermore Sir I would like to discuss the manner in which my craft is being held. Starfleet Starfighter Operations require all prototype craft to be held in a secured hangar or under marine guard while the craft is not in operational status." She finished still snapped to attention awaiting the Admiral to reply and realize that the last time he had seen her she was just entering the Academy.

Steve chuckled somewhat, smiling at the obvious traits handed down from Father to Daughter. "You can forget your policy while onboard, Commander. Thrinacia has too much to worry about right now without sticking to time limits." He paused for a moment, considering whether or not to continue. He did. "Surely by now you've realised theres a difference between theory and actuality? In theory, yes, there should be a response within a time set down by policy. In actuality you're approaching a Starbase that has close to 50 vessels either enroute, here, or leaving - we're a busy team here right now, and unfortunately a single prototype isnt the top of our list. As for utilising your flairs outside my window; bad move. I will be in touch with your Commanding Officer, Captain Trane, to see that correct action is taken. As a superior officer you should know to act as such, and scorching my hull is not on my policy." He took in a breathe, his throat becoming dry as he continued. "Furthermore your fighter will remain under its current standing in my hangar. End of. This is my command, and I will decide what prototypes and experimental technology get what security standing... right now yours isnt my priority." He finished up knowing full-well if he knew Sage's dad, which he thought he did, this was not the end of it.

Just as Admiral Malloway finished speaking and Sage opened her mouth to reply, she overheard a request for landing, and recognized the security coding that followed it.

=/\=Flight Operations to Starfighter Tango 0, permission to land granted. Please proceed to hangar 2, section 21 delta.=/\=

"I beg your pardon, Sir, but I suggest we hold this conversation for a moment to allow for Admiral Targus to land and join us." She retorted, continuing to stand at attention.

Draco sent a single pring reply to show that he received his clearance and proceeded to his landing area. Within moments he was touching down and disembarking his craft. As he watched the cockpit close a Marine Sgt. approached and snapped to.

"Sgt. Ral Marine Security Detail Tango reporting as ordered to secure your craft, Admiral."

"At ease Sgt." Draco replied as he turned to address the young man. "I assume you will be working on a delta four security rotation?"

"Aye Sir. My orders are to stand guard and await a relief in 6 hours. All marines on this detail are fully briefed on security operations concerning your craft and detailed at Operational clearance sierra 4."

"Very well," replied Draco as he grinned a bit, "dont let me keep you from your duties." He continued as he stepped back and started to make his way to the hangar door that lead to the main corridor. As he exited the hangar Draco tapped a comm panel on the wall and called up the route to the command centre.

a few moments later

Draco approached the command centre and stopped at the doors.

"Computer recognize security access; Targus, Draco. Admiral. Dragon-Alpha-3-Tango."

The computer beeped in acceptance and the doors opened. Draco stepped in and looked around for the officer of the deck, but he was in luck; he spotted his old friend, Malloway, and hua daughter, Sage. He walked over and stopped just short of the group. "I see we are all getting to know each other!" He croaked with a grin.

Steve turned to look af Draco with a smile  taking his hand to shake it firmly once, releasing it as he spoke. "Good to see you again Draco. You coukd say we're making acquaintance again, yes. Seems your daughter is having issues understandig that on my Starbase; I make the policies. Regardless of whom or what arrives here. You know full-well yourself what my resources are concentrated around; and that is utmost priority." He glanced to Connor for a moment - a gesture of understanding towards the Gateway knowledge.

"Aye Steve, I do. I am sure that the young Commander would understand that aswell if she was inclined to have the same information that we do. Alas though, she is not so inclined. Might I suggest for the sake of purpose that we have the Cmdrs craft moved into the bay with mine?" He replied as he snapped a glare at Sage. "As for ypu Commander, I suggest that you step back and look about a bit. Some of the things in operation here are far more important than you can handle." He spouted as he turned to face Sage head on.

"Aye Sir, I will take that to mind. With permission from the Admirals I would like to return to my craft and perform some post-flight tests."

Steve watched the exchange between the Targus', squinting his

eyes somewhat as he noticed the pain of a headache beating against the inside of his brow. "Commander Targus, it may be more prudent to get yourself and your craft to your assignment. The Braveheart will have the resources ready for your fighter, and it means my Starbase staff will have one less thing to worry about." He exhaled as he gripped either side of his forehead quickly against the pain. "Now, if you'll all excuse me. Connor; finalise the ceremony and make sure all COs and XOs and relevant officers are ready for our briefing this afternoon. Any problems and I'll be in my quarters. Draco." He nodded to excuse himself and darted off to the turbolift, allowing the doors to close before exhaling sharply again. A rest, then a trip to the Doctor it seemed.

"Computer, Fleet Commander's quarters."

OOC: Joint-smoking post between Ornixen and John Morgan.

Ah, so they weren't supposed to be there Ornixen thought to himself as he sensed the guards outside his quarters leave.

"Come in," he hollered as he casually floated a PADD from a nearby end table to his hand.

Upon hearing the request to enter, John did so. Entering, his focused immediately on a PADD that floated from a table in to some ones hand. “Merlin indeed”, John thought to him self

“Greeting, you must be Ornixen, I am Admiral John.” John Introduced himself.

"Pleasure to meet you, Admiral.  How can I help you?" Ornixen said, standing and offering a hand.  "Also, I'm not Merlin, but I do know the man who the legend was based on."

“Is that so? Well am sure you found him to be a nice fellow. As for my being here, well, it is a small quest for knowledge.”, John paused for a thought. John rarely came across anyone with any form of telepathy, and always felt a little nervous around them. He then continued.

“The security reports seem to suggest that you came out of nowhere, with a ship not known to starfleet. This unsettles me, to put it lightly. The fact that you walked out of Steve's office without alerting a single security mechanism, is almost insulting. With such power, I wonder what you would want with us at all in the first place?”, John enquired.

“R-Lin is his actual name, and he is a quite a nice fellow.  Taught me everything I know about magic, actually.  Also, don’t worry about my telepathy.  I can tell you are nervous about it, but I assure you, as a matter of etiquette, I don’t read any thoughts but the one you are currently thinking and then I only do so passively.  I’ve been the target of numerous attacks over the centuries and keeping track of what people are actively thinking has saved myself more times than you would believe, even amongst a race of telepaths.”

“As to my reason for being here, I was born human,” Ornixen said, pausing for emphasis, “about 400 years ago, near the close of the 20th century.  I have returned for personal reasons as well as to help you with the Gateway that you have activated.  The Dianese people have used Gate technology for many eons and my starfighter has many useful records, though she may be a bit belligerent at times.”

John stood listening to the person that was before him, telling his story. Thinking it was bizarre, and almost unbelievable. But then, John has learnt that the universe likes to throw you the unexpected at every proverbial corner. It certainly keeps starfleet in business.

“I see” John began. “You seem to jumped a little. These Dianese, I presume are a highly advance race, beyond what starfleet is, since they hold such technology. I also presume that you have been with these Dianese since. What relationship do you have with them? How did you come to being with them?”

“Well, how I came to be with them is a long, long story.  Suffice it to say, a number of magical rings came to my friends and I, rings of legendary status amongst the Dianese.  As for my relationship with them, I had been their ruler, their ‘Kuchaba’, for nearly 200 years before I stepped down a couple of decades ago.  I hold the title now in emeritus status.  I am also known as a ‘kaba’, a descendant of a fledgling race that either has a great destiny or has a great deal of natural magical ability beyond that of their peers.  Kaba is also a term used to describe somebody uses DNA has been artificially fused with Dianese DNA and who was not fully transformed by the process.”

“As for their technology, you are correct, they are far beyond what Starfleet has ever encountered, save for encounters with the Q-Continuum.  While the Dianese do not practice such galactic changes as the Q, the oldest amongst us were alive when the Q ascended to their current state and we are all trained in protecting ourselves from their abilities, though there has rarely been a reason to in the time I have been with them.  And yes, before you ask, the oldest of the Dianese are many, many, eons old.”

“Starfleet has a few in counters with the Q. Mostly with one individual, mischievous in nature. Bring us one of our more favorable enemies, the Borg. Having counter measures against them certainly would make one captain in particular happy.” John jested, but continued with a more serious tone.

“I do digress however, for this enthralling story you do tell, is rather remarkable to say the least. Apart from 'homesickness' perhaps, you say you wish to assist us with the gateway. My presumption is that you detected us fiddling around with the device. Do the rest of the Dianese know of this, or are we going to annoy the wrong people? If they are as powerful as you say, starfleet doesn't want to tick them off. “ John finished.

“Honestly, there is a record of the Gateway being activated within the monitoring station network, but the military probably doesn’t care, although the science department will likely keep an eye on future activity.  If the Federation actually creates their own Gate technology, then an Ambassador would likely be sent to make first contact.  Seeing as you’ve just figured out how to control a gate, not create your own, you are, what the scientists would deem, an ‘interesting group to watch for the next century or two’.  In other words, if they were around watching, you wouldn’t be aware of it, although the Firestorm would likely detect them if they were within a couple of light years.”

“These Borg, you speak of.  I’ve seen some references in your computer library regarding them.  They are a cybernetic race, yes?  The reports I’ve seen remind me of a race of robots that the Dianese were at war with when I first arrived with them and I’m curious if you know anything of their history?”

“Our records have very little on their history, other than their quest for perfection has taken many worlds and species throughout this galaxy since their existence. They have a stronghold in the Delta quadrant. The only people they seem willing to share information with are those that they assimilate into their collective mind.  As of recent, there has been little activity from them as far as starfleet is concerned, starfleet still considers them a great threat. If you wish, some more detailed reports can be given to you.”

“As for the gate way, with our current knowledge of the technology, any assistance would be appreciated. I do have fears of using technology currently beyond our full comprehension, and anything to minimize these are welcome. Starfleet has decided to assign a fleet to its protection to ensure the Borg, or anyone else that may use it for malicious intent, does not obtain it. To kick start the fleet off, the Fleet CO wants a nice party. You are welcome to attend, unless you are busy?”

“Actually, I was planning on heading down.  Admiral Malloway actually sent me a message with the details about it, though I should probably get better acquainted with the layout of this station.  It took me a few minutes to find my way just to these quarters, and that was with the help of the Firestorm’s sensors.”

“The ceremony isn’t for a while, so you should have plenty time for getting to know the station. I for one have work to do; making sure everything is set for this evening, not to mention the debriefing. Tell the ship's command staff what they have in store for them. May I recommend not hitting the bar quite yet, there should be more than enough opportunity for that this evening.”

“Of course, Admiral,” Ornixen said, chuckling as he called his staff to him, reaching out his hand just in time to catch it as it came flying across the room.

John watched as he saw some kind of staff fly across the room into Ornixen's hand, John raised an eyebrow in response.

“It has been a pleasure taking with you. Enjoy getting lost and your stay. If you excuse me.”, John    said as he began to turn round for the exit to the guest quarters.

Starbase Thrinacia

John Walked the corridors towards to where the preparations for the debrief of all the command staff in this fleet. This was important since it will layout to them the hinge of most operations within the fleet. The use of the gate to explore further than current convention would have us.

As John walked through the corridors of Starbase Thrinacia, He continued to work on answers for possible questions that the command staff may have on this operation. There could be many, providing they are inquisitive enough, hopefully.

Entered the turbo lift and spoke his request:

“Conference Room Alpha”, John requested, in response, there was a chirp, followed by the turbo lift accelerating.

The turbo lift took a while to reach its destination. These star bases are not exactly big, but insanely massive structures loitering in space. It should not be too long before the debrief starts, an hour at most, John thought as the turbo lift continued traversing the station.

Finally the turbo-lift came to a halt, and the doors swung open. Greeted with another corridor, that looked like the next, The grey panelled walls with black shining terminals at shoulder height along the walls.

John headed for the first door he could see, located to his right. Entering he was greeted with the conference room. The room was filled with a lecture room style furnishings, seating that focused on a central point, a holo-monitor. A few people where finishing up with the control panels that situated either side of the holo-monitor.

“Excuse me sir”, a voice behind him said, John turned round to see who it was.

“I do apologise ensign, you don't mind if I have one?”, John said, seeing an ensign bringing in a silver tray of sandwiches. John took one and stepped a side.

“Tuna, my favourite.”, John commented, as the ensign placed the tray on one of the desks at the front, and left the room.. John turned his attention to the control panels that where being ran trough their last checks. Stuffing the sandwich he picked up into his mouth, one of the staff fitting it turned to him.

“All done admiral, you may use it at any time.”, She said.

“Most excellent “ John muffled. He swallowed the sandwich and continued, ”I can run through the presentation before hand, you are dismissed Lieutenant.” John commanded.

“Yes sir”, The Lieutenant replied. The Lieutenant then exited the conference room, along with the others who just finished, leaving John by him self.

John approached the terminal, and entered the commands to access the presentation. The presentation then immediately appeared on the holo-monitor. Flipping through the slides, it seemed all in order. From the goals this fleet are intent in accomplishing to the final details of the gate, including visual representations of the gate, and various specifications of it. The presentation is all in order. This includes sidenotes. It wasn't often that John has done a presentation with reasonable side notes at hand. All now is to wait for the big chief him self, and the command staff (of course).
