Steve nodded slowly, watching as Connor took another report over as sounds of clashing bulkhead rang through as repairs were underway. Underway but slowly. "Agreed," he waited for the assistant to walk out of earshot, "cross-check with Gillibrand and have him monitor... And Commander, I want this kept to as few people as possible. If we have a mole or agent amongst us, I dont want them alerted - trust is an issue somewhere along the lines here." He knew Connor well enough to know he could handle it, so he continued, almost calling Connor back after a moment.

"Connor, the Braveheart was due to take the first patrol through the Gateway itself, and if the Cardassians are up to something..." Again he paused, processing things through his aging mind as he clasped his hands together infront of himself loosely. "I have an assignment I need of Captain Trane to complete, which will open the Braveheart's Command position. After this 'incident' I would feel better at ease if someone was in command I knew I could trust..." He stopped, looking to Connor with piercing yet gentle eyes; a sure-fire sign he intended the Commander to take that very role. Temporarily of course.

About to head off to meet with Captain Gillibrand to discuss the breach of security amongst other things, though of a personal nature that had come up during the ceremony, Connor heard Steve continue talking and made eye contact. After it seemed a little strange as he was put in the position of taking command of the Braveheart while Ethan Trane fulfilled a mission from the Admiral. Connor eyed Steve. "You're serious," he said about to laugh but then when Steve continued to eye him, Connor lost his smile. "I'm not ready for command," he said.

"Commander," Steve began, standing up with a straightened back to pose his serious stature as his hands moved from clasping infront of him, to behind, "if I didnt believe you werent ready for taking a command I would not have made the proposition. The Braveheart is a good ship, she's had a history which is one of the best I've known, and her crew are dedicated, loyal, and some of the best in the Fleet. Many of them, from record, have been with her for a long time, her previous CO being one of them. As for yourself, you've been my right-hand for some time now and every obstacle you've had to face you've taken on, and I am proud to be able to call you my Executive Officer. You're ready, Commander. Besides, we're talking temporarily for a single assignment." The Admiral finished with a grin and an 'air-nudge' to someone that would have been beside him. An odd gesture he found himself doing increasingly often these days... I havent even had imaginery friends since I was 4 years old. He mused to himself, smiling within as he turned his attention back to the moment.

"Excuse me, Sir." An Ensign passed a PADD to Steve to take, which he did and imprinted his authorisation before handing it back, his eyes looking to Connor once more.

"What say you, Commander?"

Lieutenant Matthews sat at one of the empty consoles on the Command Deck, the PADD the Admiral had just authorised being downloaded to the communications grid she had on the screen. What a day. She thought to herself, leaning back in the chair as the affirmitive bleep signalled the download had been a success.

After everything that had happened, and with so many Junior Officers aboard she'd had her work cut out for her trying to get them organised during the battle, as well as monitor those that had come over from the Academy for the ceremony... or what SHOULD have been a ceremony.

Her hazel eyes looked to the screen as it displayed the outgoing message:

Quote:FROM: Lt. Cmdr. S. Matthews, Academy Liason and Personnel Administrator, Starbase Thrinacia
TO: ALL CADETS
Re: De-Brief and Further Orders

Cadets,

You are hereby ordered to report to Conference Room Theta on Deck 22 for your de-brief and instruction of further orders. Do not be late, I will be time-keeping every single one of you.

Regards,

Lieutenant Commander Sarah Matthews
Academy Liason and Personnel Administrator
Starbase Thrinacia

A delicate smiled stretched her lips across her jaw as she confirmed for the message to send. Maybe once that was sorted she could start to actually see what the Starbase needed of her, rather than the Academy.

Jack got the go ahead from Mr Abrams so he looked to his left and said "Mr Herrmann take us in straight and steady maneuvering thrusters only" Jack then turned to look at Mr Haven and said "Take the weapons and shields offline for docking" it only took a few minutes for the ship to get inside the Starbase and dock once they had he got up and said "Mr Rayner, return the ship to grey mode and alpha shift is to get some rest, well done people I am sure the Captain is proud of each and everyone of us." Jack then tapped his COMM badge and said =/\=Ketteringham to the Captain, we have docked and i have given the order for alpha shift to get some rest=/\= he began to walk over to the turbo lift as he was talking to the captain once there he got in and said "Deck two" and then continued to speak to the Captain =/\=Is there anything else that you would like me to do before i myself turn in for the night?=/\= the turbo lift came to a stop and Jack got out and headed straight for his quarters whilst waiting for the Captain to reply.

Stanley almost choked on his last mouthful. "You're kidding me! Now? We were told 2230 hours! That's a whole hour away! Now?"
Will shrugged.
"What can you do? Rank has its privileges. If the officer decides to bring it forward an hour, name a single cadet who's got a chance of changing their mind?"
Stanley goldfished for a moment, at a loss.
"Exactly!" Will finished for him. "So either bin that or bring it with you."
As he finished the sentence, Will was standing, glancing around the cavernous room for some clue as to their destination. Finding none, he chose the next, logical, step.
"Computer, please direct me to the nearest turbolift."
He didn't even register the computer's verbal response as the flashing red line appeared along the wall. He was just hoping nobody would notice them having to use directions.
"You said 'please' to the computer?" Stanley laughed, incredulously.
Will glanced at him sidelong.
"When the computers take over the Federation, I want it on record that I  treated them nicely."
"O... K..." Stanley said, then hurried to catch his friend, who had set off without him.
Once within sight of the turbolift, Will quickly cancelled the computer's helpful guiding light.
"Deck 22, please," Will said, as the doors closed on them.
"I'll never understand you," Stanley conceded.
"You wouldn't know where to begin," Will deadpanned.
Then the doors opened, offering them the delights of Deck 22 and all that awaited them.
"Ready?" Will asked his friend.
"As I'll ever be..." Stanley answered, and stepped out into the corridor.
Will hesitated a moment, then turned back to the turbolift doors.
"Thank you," he said.
Stanley stared at him for a long moment until Will couldn't maintain the grim expression any longer.
"You... you... I never know when you're being serious, Will! That'll get you into trouble some day. The sooner the better, too!"
"Let's go," Will grinned, and they followed the gathering crowd to the conference room.

Cadet William Halsey had immediately gone to work after Admiral Malloway had ordered all the Cadets to help in repair work on the Starbase. In the 9 minutes since then William had helped in things around the Command Deck like fixing and restarting consoles, replacing wall and ceiling panels and replacing light fixtures. As he was finishing up on one of these jobs his personal PADD which was rigged to receive and send personal messages vibrated in his pocket. Taking it out, William read the new  message:

Debriefing? Guess they want to find out what we did during the fight. thought William. Turning to Lieutenant James Spruance his cousin and XO of the Majesty, William signaled to him that William had to go to Deck 22. William immediately went into the turbolift and said “Deck 22”. The doors closed and the lift descended but stopped  shortly to pick up two new Cadets that William hadn’t seen before. Must have come in on the Indiana, William thought, They must be going to the debriefing as well. After they got on the turbolift and told the computer their destination it continued to descend. The two newly arrived Cadets were talking with each other and did not seem to notice William. A few moments later the lift stopped on Deck 22 and William exited ahead of the two other Cadets and walked toward the conference room.

Filled with renewed confidence and pride for his abilities Connor nodded. "I accept sir." He snapped to attention and saluted; a moment later resumed his normal stance. "When would you like this arrangement to take affect?"

He would like to get to the bottom of the security breach before taking command of the Braveheart, though he had an inkling that Steve would put Commander Goodyear in charge of the investigation since she was head of security. At that stage many thoughts about command ran through the Felinoid's mind and how he would go about it.

"Mr Rayner, return the ship to grey mode and..."

Eamon began the process of powering down the ship's systems except lighting, doors, lifts, life support, communications and the main computer. "Aye," he replied to the acting first officer. He wasn't looking forward to the meeting with the Captain and Sullivan about the unauthorised shut down of the power grid to extract the Cardassian beacon. He tapped his combadge. "Rayner to Sullivan, I want you to report to the Captain's ready room at 2200 hours. Rayner out." He was unhappy with the engineer and though the operation was a success the timing was completely off.
