As I looked down the shaft of the Jeffereys Tube we had just climbed I realised that I had no more pain. Everything that I had done in the last hour had been nothing short of a miracle. Everyone behind me were tired and discouraged, seeing all the internal damage the starbase had taken was concerning. There was evidence of a flash fire in the tube we were in and there was a lot of colappsed debris.

Quote: =/\= Cadet Halsey to Cadet Locker can you hear me? I'm in the Jeffries tube at Sickbay. Are you above or below me? Des? Can you hear me? Me, Commander Jackson and a few others are here to check on you. Are you alright?=/\=

=^= Cadet Locker here, I can barely hear you, look for a communications jamming device on one of the Cardassians. It must have been damaged from the phaser overload but it is obviously still emitting a signal. We are above you, trying to make our way to the bridge. But there is a lot of damage in here, not sure how safe it is. Try contact the bridge and see if they can beam us out.=^=

There was an strange silence, I was not sure if Halsey got the communication.

Callum was stood next to the opening to the tube listening to Cadet Locker replying when he finished he quickly jumped in the tube and tapped his own COMM Badge =/\=Cadet Locker I agree with you this tube doesn't look safe can you climb down and get out we can then get to the Command Deck together we have found a fairly safe path there=/\= Callum paused and looked down and shut his eyes Damn that is a long way down he continued =/\=Do you have a nurse with you as I am in need of medical assistance?=/\= Callum looked at his first officer who had found the jamming device and was attempting to disable it as he shouted over to Callum "Sir i have found the device I am not sure how to disable it though" Callum quickly climbed out and said "James place it on the floor over there" Callum pointed a few meters in front of him James nodded and placed it on the floor and Callum pulled out the Cardassian phaser which was still set on full power aimed at the device and fired he quickly tapped his COMM Badge =/\=Cadet Locker we have destroyed the device=/\= Callum stood waiting for his reply.

I was worried, each step we took to climb seemed to weaken the internal structure of the tube, but we had no choice, we had to make our way back down at all cost. The way a head was too dangerous.

=^=Cadet Callum, we are already on our way down, and yes, we do have a few medics with us. I am glad we can go together as we are unarmed. I used my phaser to take out those Cardies. =^=

Things were getting really difficult and dangerous in the tubes and we were still two levels up. I could sense the fear and concern mixed with bravery and confidence with the people following me. It made me proud to be part of the Federation. I could sense this whole battle coming to an end and I knew we would win. I just wished I could have played a better part. Been stuck in Sickbay made me feel a little useless. I guess I would have plenty of time to make it up.

My thoughts were focused on the love of my life back home, although things didn't work out between us, I knew she still loved me. The thought of her gave me strength.

Callum waited for the Cadet and the others to emerge from the tube and when they did he headed straight over for one of the medics and said "Excuse me could you give me some pain relief please for my arm" the medic nodded and pulled out a hypo spray and administered it in the normal fashion once that was done Callum took a deep breath and said so that the whole group could hear them "We are going to head directly to the Command Deck now same formation" Callum then headed out of sick bay with the Cadets and his crew following him.

The group were walking quickly and keeping on their guards for any Cardassian's as they passed the auxiliary armory Callum quickly picked a Federation Standard Phaser as the Cardassian one was hard to understand once they left there it only took a couple of minutes to find the Turbo lift which was going to take them to the Command Deck but before walking up to it Callum crossed his fingers praying that it was not offline due to the damage on the Starbase luckily the doors opened but inside there was only enough room for half the group to go so Callum walked up to his Science officer and said "Lieutenant you stay with this half of the group and I will take the other meet us on the Command Deck once the lift is free again" he didn't wait for an answer as he was keen to get to the Command Deck and see what the Admiral wanted once he had got back inside the lift he said "Command Deck" and the doors shut and the lift began its journey to the Command Deck.

The Turbo lift came to a stop and the doors opened Callum stepped out with his half of the group following him he headed straight to the Admiral who was stood around the central podium so Callum approached the Admiral and said "Admiral you wanted to see me?"

A control Panel blew up in a shower of sparks in Bryan's face as he was running a scan it blew him backward and he hit the deck he quickly pulled himself up an returned to his scans using a different control panel whilst another member of his staff put the fire out that hit had created he noticed that the Independence's power signature was weak he quickly brought up a visual of the ship most of it external lights had gone offline including the run light he quickly tapped his COMM Badge and said =/\=Abrams to Captain Gillibrand, are you in need of assistance or is this a trick you are playing on the Cardies if you have lost power i can tow you back in for repairs with the tractor beam unless you can handle it out there yourself=/\= whilst waiting for a reply he locked the scanners onto the ship ready to fire the tractor beam he new that he would have to be precise otherwise the independence may end up with a deck less or be missing a side of the ship he had his index finger hovered over the engage button for the tractor beam he had run many simulations about docking a ship with using only a tractor beam but he had never done it for real the first time he tried it on a simulation he crashed the ship into the side of the Starbase just missed the warp core but every other simulation he had ran he managed to dock the ship or just slightly missed the bay and he had to try again but never had a disaster like that again he new he could do it all he needed now was for Captain Gillibrand to reply.

The Captain was talking to the Chief engineer about having to dock the ship in order to get the device out that Jack found earlier when the ship went dead no lights no control panels Jack pulled out a torch that he had in his pocket and turned it on as he did he turned to face the rest of the bridge crew where the hell did i get this torch from he thought to himself whilst trying to think of a way to get power back he didn't like it they were sitting ducks they couldn't even see if a Cardie ship was about to blow them out of the sky sensors were down but even if they weren't they couldn't use them as the control panels were dead that gave him an idea the torch he was holding had power the battery cells in the phasers. torches ETC should have enough power to bring the control panels online just long enough to attempt to get that device out but then again what if it didn't work and drains all the weapons they would be defenseless if the Cardies decided to board the ship he was just about to propose the idea to the Captain when the Captain COMM Badge came to life he heard every word due to the fact there were no consoles beeping or engines to drown it out he looked back at his Captain and said "Sir I believe that he can do it I have watched him do it on simulations before if it were anyone else I would say keep it as a last resort if I was you I would let him tow us back in" he knew full well that any one could do it in normal circumstances they would just do it nice and slow but these weren't normal circumstances he would have to do it fast so that the shields on the Starbase don't stay down too long but Jack new he could do he believed in his best mate.

Eamon had to suppress his anger at the suddenly power loss for the ship had yet to dock with the starbase for the procedure. He would find out who jumped the gun and make them jump in front of the gun, well in metaphorically anyway. He knew that everyone was in position and knew what to do, when to do it then quickly restart the power grid.

It only took up to a minute for the power to return to all systems. =^= Sullivan to Rayner, we've taken the device out and everything is good. =^= Ensign Tony Sullivan, the computer systems specialist, announced over the intercom.

"You won't be when I get down there," Eamon muttered to himself. "Good, Rayner out," he replied over the open channel and closed it quickly. He turned to the Captain, "Shall we get back to it sir? All systems operating normally."

Re: Fleet Opening Mission: To Our Future - Steve Malloway - 07-29-2011

STARBASE THRINACIA
Command Deck
21.16 hours

A rumble passed through the decking as Callum had approached the Admiral and spoken, a rumble that felt more like someone's stomache crying out in agony over little food, not a rumble of say a shuttle-transport zipping by on the transport-line on Earth. An eery kind of rumble.

"Report!" Steve called out, wanting answers on the situation before replying to Callum.

"Sir, the Independence took all bar 2 of the Cardassians, the Fleet have taken out one of the remainging two-"

As the report came over, another officer called aloud. "Single remaining Cardassian has warped out of the system.

A silence fell across the deck for a moment, a silence that seemed to mask even the bleeping of consoles or crackling of sparking conduits. The Senior Command Team let the thoughts of everyone present linger for a moment before the Fleet Commander himself stood up straight again and turned to Callum. "The battle is over, but we're still not done here. Mr Jackson, I want you to fully debrief Commodore Wilkinson on what the hell you did to the Majesty out there, and once done there report back in to me. Your officers and crew, Cadets for as well for now, are to assist in repairing Thrinacia's power grid or tend to the wounded in Sickbay." He stopped, turning to Connor and John. "I want status reports from all ship COs in my hand within the next 10 minutes, Connor I want you to handle Thrinacia personally."

With nods from everyone, Steve reached out to open a Fleet-wide channel. =/\="Fleet, this is Admiral Malloway... Well done, bring everyone home."=/\= He closed the channel, feeling nothing more was needed to be said. They'd made it through it through their teamwork and the leadership of the Commanding Officers, that was any thanks a Fleet CO could give; the safety of everyone. He looked down at the current status of the Fleet from not 15 minutes ago. So many ships had been lost, even 1 was more than necessary. But at the end of the day ships could be replaced. The lives that were on them, no one could replace them. Individuals, lost. Damn good individuals.

"Computer, send my condolences on the losses to all members of the Fleet lost during the battle. Let them know they can contact me whenever necessary." The Admiral ordered, leaning softly on the edges of the console as the computer chirped in the affirmative. His eyes softly watched the names of their ships they had lost, trying to look deeper into the console for a way to bring back all the hands on board. Nothing. Son, there are some things you just cant change. The words of his father rang through his mind. You might not be able to change them, he thought, but you can sure as hell never forget.

As his head came back to the Command deck, Steve stood up straight again to fully assess the damamge to the deck. Salvagable, yes. But it would take time, double shifts, and plenty of hands. The door to his office was still intact though. Maybe his prized belongings were untouched.

But, for now, the extra hands were needed. So, the Admiral walked to a conduit to begin helping in repairs.

Re: Fleet Opening Mission: To Our Future - Zack Gillibrand - 07-29-2011

--USS Independence

"Dammit, dammit!" Said Zack in frustration as he slammed his left fist onto the CONN console. "What in Dorinda's name is that device? And who the hell is the idiot that..."

Zack was interrupted by a call from the Starbase's Flight Controller, Lieutenant Abrams. "Abrams to Captain Gillibrand, are you in need of assistance or is this a trick you are playing on the Cardies if you have lost power I can tow you back in for repairs with the tractor beam unless you can handle it out there yourself..."

Zack tapped his commbadge and responded. "Mr. Abrams, we would be more than grateful for any...wait a second." The lights came back on, and Zack got a nod from Lt. Ketteringham at Ops, indicating that things were okay. "Belay that, Mr. Abrams. We are back up and running. Gillibrand out."

Zack looked to his Chief Engineer, who was justifiably angry. Rayner confirmed that everything was up and running. "When we get through this, I'd like to see you and Mr. Sullivan in my Ready Room."

Time seemed to stand still as the Independence fell back into formation with her companion vessels. Zack did not want to brag, but his well-timed use of the transphasic torpedos had basically collapsed the Cardassians' line. The Fleet was giving the few remaining stragglers a run for their money; soon, there was only one left and it warped away quickly. Moments later, Adm. Malloway gave them the signal to stand down and return to port. Zack exhaled deeply then turned toward everyone.

"Excellent job everybody," he said. "Your performance here justifies my choice to make you part of my crew. John, stand down Red Alert. See if anybody needs an assist  back to base. Mr. Ketteringham the bridge is yours. Once we get docked, alpha shift gets shuteye ASAP."

Zack turned and headed toward his Ready Room. Adm. Malloway would expect a prompt status update, so Zack needed to get that done immediately.  It was going to be a long night.

The lights came back online and the consoles lit up Jack quickly turned and nodded to the Captain to indicate that all his systems were back online and he then turned back to his console and ran a quick diagnostic on the power generators it was amazing it looked as if they had never been tampered with when suddenly the Captain made him jump when he said "Excellent job everybody," he said. "Your performance here justifies my choice to make you part of my crew. John, stand down Red Alert. See if anybody needs an assist  back to base. Mr. Ketteringham the bridge is yours. Once we get docked, alpha shift gets shuteye ASAP." Jack quickly nodded and said "Aye Sir" he turned to watch the Captain walk of the Bridge to his ready room he then turned back and said "Set a course for the Starbase ready docking port 2" he then tapped in a Command to open hailing frequencies and then said "USS Independence to Starbase Thrinacia Air Traffic Control Permission to Dock we will hold at 1 KM from the Space Doors until we have clearance from you" Jack waited for a response as they held their position at 1 KM from the Space Doors.
